Contest 2 of the
Y2K JR
/ Airsail F3B Series,
hosted
by CDSF at Palmerston North,
on May 13-14, 2000.
CD: David James
Summary,
Round
1
The weather forecast for the weekend was
not good and kept some fliers from making the trip to Palmerston North.
Unfortunately they were correct in staying home, with plenty of wind and rain
making things very unpleasant on the field. We managed to get in one round on
the Saturday, but even then over half the field either couldn’t (through
damage), or elected not to, fly speed because of the conditions. The wind was
around 20kts and rising at this point, made really bumpy by upwind tree lines.
With no one really wanting to fly the discussion centered on whether the wind
was above the maximum limit or not - then the rain returned and made the
decision for us…
Sunday dawned wet
and miserable, and although the weather was slowly clearing heavy overnight rain
had made the field into a bog. In the interests of maintaining good relations
with the land owner the contest was called off – I didn’t hear any
objections to the decision! After a few coffees and the usual banter in David
James workshop we headed home. Although it would have been great to have got
more flying in, it was still an enjoyable weekend and a nice change to get home
in time for dinner, rather than the usual midnight arrival.
