Contest 1 of the
2002 JR
/ Airsail F3B Series,
hosted
by AucklandSoar at Ambury Farm Park,
on February 9-10, 2002.
CD: Chris Kaiser
Summary,
Round
1,
Round
2
After the previous years predominantly calm
conditions, it was ironic that the first event of the 2002 series was cut short
due to the wind! Although within the FAI limit, the direction and field
limitations made conditions very unpleasant when landing or low down in speed
and distance. Since two rounds were completed on the Saturday we had a contest,
and with Sunday being even windier it was decided to call it quits and not risk
more damage to models.
Despite the wind giving great launch
height, conditions for the duration rounds were very tricky. There was plenty of
sink to be found, and very little lift. Most of the slots were won with flights
well short of the 10 minute target, and tactical relaunches decided several of
them.
Distance was almost the opposite of
duration, with great lift being encountered several times - Scott Chisholm
racked off 26 legs in one distance slot, while Chris Kaiser flew 25 in another
round. Best speed time was 17.36
seconds by Dave Larsen in round 1. Congratulations to Aneil Patel who patched up
a cracked fuse and then flew his first sub-20 (19.74) second run in round one!
