This event we struggled for numbers but it was good to get the ten that were
there, four or five extra guys would have been better. Thanks for Kevin for
bringing the gear up and helping out as much as he does. The forecast was for
easterlies and when we arrived at the field we had westerly breeze which we set
up into. Much to most people's disgust we had speed first up which the air was
very lethargic. The range was from 21 -27 seconds! One thing that peeves me is
the amount of moaning you get when you do something outside the square, like
running speed first and speed orders.
I think most people had varying degrees of success, the top three guys always
consistently the fastest in speed, though Peter Williams (Crossfire) got on top
of his launching issues and ended up having a couple of PB's in speed. I guess
that where the rest of us lose it.
Distance almost every one lost one distance round, though I was happy to come
away with 4 grand's myself. Unfortunately a winch change on Saturday probably
cost us a round, though having to run distance two-up did not help. Richard
Thompson (X21) flew steadily and I'm sure a highlight for him was beating Kevin
B (Estrella) in their distance match.
Fastest Speed Dave Larsen (Carracho 3000) 16.06, most laps Aneil Patel 22
(Crossfire) Results are provisional as we have spotted a score error on the
results; it did not change the placing but made the results closer. I thought it
was interesting that 2.5% difference covered the top five competitors.
Overall a Good start to the year, the talcum powder soil on the field was
hard work on the legs. Many thanks to Warwick Gatland for his continued help in
location field for us.
