A great weekend was had at Matamata flying round 2 of the F3B series.

A slow day on Saturday getting thru 2 rounds was finished off relaxing at the field at the end of the day.

Fasted speed time for Saturday was a 15.52sec Round 2 run from Joe. David & Richard did personal best times of 18.76 & 18.37 respectively in Round 1.

Sunday saw a contrast from Saturday with light and variable winds. Another 2 rounds flown and finishing around 2:30 giving us good time to pack up and relax before heading off home.

Contest 3 - June 19-20 - Hawkes Bay

Summary - ROUnd 1 - ROUnd 2 - ROUnd 3

Report by Kevin Botherway:

Great weekend was had by all. We had three competitors pull out before the weekend which altered the draw but wasn’t a problem to work around thanks to Joe Wurts for helping with working out a really good contest draw.

The first time for many years we managed three rounds in one day. We did drive home on Saturday in the dark and then off out for a great night ( Rugby and Beer! ) at the Happy Tav in Havelock North organized by Ken Duffell.

Unfortunately Sunday dawned with a little moisture falling from the heavens so everyone elected after a few cups of coffee to take an easy day to drive home.

Fastest speed run was a new NZ record 15.23 congratulations to Joe Wurts and well done on the most laps in distance (22).

Contest 4 - September 11-12 - Matamata (Waikato Champs)

Summary - ROUND 1 - ROUND 2

Report by Kevin Botherway:

Great weekend had by all although the weather let us down on the Sunday with a constant drizzle.

The three Australians – Tim Kullack, Evan Outtrim and his son Joe meet up with us at the field on Friday about lunchtime and did quite a few launches and had quite a good time getting things dialed in. The field was in great condition and we had quite a strong wind but still managed to remain flying until about 4.00pm. It was then time to get back to the accommodation at Waihora and listen to all those sheep jokes over a few beers….

The Saturday started out quite fine unlike the promised bad forecast we set up and got straight into the first duration round. We started moving along quite well with the rounds going rather smoothly until we started launching with a slight downwind breeze which was building all the time. We had one group of Distance in round one to go and yep time for a winch change. Pete Williams took over from me here as I had a metal gear servo strip and some work to do. Pete managed to get most guys organized and we were flying again within the hour. We did a back to back speed groups with some fairly average times due to a little moisture starting to appear from the gods. At this time unfortunately Chris also broke a flap servo and missed one speed task before he had a replacement model in the air again.

Everyone was quite positive even though we could see showers appearing in the distance all around us. We managed to crack off two complete rounds and started on the third duration when the heavens opened and really started to let go – So home time. The Saturday night was a meal out with the Aussie contingent and a few beers. Thanks to the guys making the effort to come over all the way from Perth - I think they were really here for the skiing in the south island next week !  Great to meet you and have some fun times together.

Most laps in distance Joe Wurts 22 laps - fastest speed run Dave Larsen 17.94 secs
